The interior of Mauritius consists of mountains and inactive volcanoes, coated in tropical rainforests. This part of the island can be explored on hikes, quad bikes or on horseback, with the Black River Gorges National Park being a particularly beautiful part that is worth visiting. Of course, the beaches are exquisite and are best enjoyed with a cocktail in hand under the shade of a palm tree. The private island of Île aux Cerfs boasts one such pristine beach as well as a magnificent lagoon and fabulous golf course. The surrounding off-shore islands can also be explored by yacht or catamaran.
Mauritius also has a fascinating history including the Flacq Market, Grand Baie village and the Balaclava Ruins near the Baie aux Totues. May to December
This is the best time to enjoy Mauritius’s beaches and natural splendour. During this time, there is little rain and pleasant temperatures. In July and August, the east coast of the island is fantastic for kitesurfing as the trade winds pick-up. December is one of the busiest times to visit Mauritius with the festive rush, though it’s not unusual to experience a short sharp shower to reduce the humidity.
January to April
Although Mauritius experiences year-round warmth, the wettest months are from January until March. During this time, the island can experience cyclones, high winds and lots of rain.
