Amboseli National Park in Kenya is often aptly referred to as ‘The Land of Giants’. This breathtaking park boasts marvellous vistas of Mt Kilimanjaro and is an excellent place to witness large herds of elephants, and you might even spot one of the famous big tuskers still left in this region.
An Amboseli National Park safari is an excellent first point of call for visitors. It is a rather compact park with a wonderful diversity of wildlife, including giraffes, cheetahs, striped and spotted hyenas, buffalo, Thomson’s gazelle, gerenuk, lions, and many more. The park offers a selection of lodges and camps, providing the perfect base to explore the area on a classic game drive, photographic safari, on horseback, or from above in a hot air balloon safari.
There is also the opportunity to learn about the cultural history of the area by meeting the vibrant Maasai people, who have maintained their pastoralist traditions for generations.
Despite Mt Kilimanjaro’s location in neighbouring Tanzania, Amboseli boasts some of the best views of Africa’s tallest mountain. The rest of the park is a blend of seasonal lakes, savannah, woodland and wetlands.
If you’re looking to nurture your inner wildlife photographer or catch sight of Africa’s giants, Amboseli is a breathtaking destination that is an essential part of a classic Kenyan safari.
